Volunteering at Firefly

Firefly is run and organized by volunteers. Everything from managing ticket sales to wood gathering is up to the participants - THIS EVENT HAPPENS BECAUSE OF YOUR HELP. Below are some areas where you can help out. Please choose areas which interest you. Coordinators for each of the departments below will be in touch about specific roles and with schedules for certain tasks. *Note- if you have something specific you wish to do, please contact volunteer@fireflyartscollective.org



Greeters
Greeters have all the fun, and have the HQ to prove it! They are charged with welcoming new arrivals to Firefly. Greeters need to be at the gate while Firefly is running; everyone can and should take a shift greeting. Greeter station art is encouraged! Exit Greeters to facilitate a smooth Exodus are also needed!

Rangers
Rangers guide you if you are lost. They help mediate if you have a dispute. They remind you to be responsible about your safety. They are the most visible point of contact for those with questions or concerns about Firefly and Firefly culture. If you enjoy helping people, be a Firefly Ranger! We especially are looking for people with medical and/or fire safety training.

Firefly Info
Firefly Info will be the place to go for event information. Members of this group will man the kiosk to help answer questions, maintain a campsite directory and lost and found, help people find volunteer opportunities, and much, much more. Volunteer to help everyone have a fun and informed Firefly!

Leave No Trace
Everyone is a member of this committee! If you see MOOP (Matter Out Of Place), pick it up! Leave No Trace angels are needed to help paint signs, award people for doing a great LNT job, encourage people to take recycling and trash away from the site and take meandering walks through the woods on Monday to make sure everything looks natural: Members of the cleanup crew are permitted to spend an extra day. DPW
The Dept. of Public Works is responsible for all kinds of projects necessary to keep the event running. Gathering wood, keeping generators fed, maintaining trails, providing rain-proofing, maintaining the outhouses... if you like to build stuff, join the DPW!

Work Weekends
This Core is responsible for organizing and running the Work Weekends that take place prior to the event. They will solicit volunteers and will coordinate with the leaders of other Cores to put together lists of tasks and projects that need be accomplished. During the Work Weekends, they will coordinate volunteers, maintain task and project lists and work with Core Leaders to maximize volunteer efforts and productivity. The Work Weekends usually happen over several weekends in June. If you are interested in participating in one of the work weekends, please email:

Communal Kitchen & Caffeine Area
Food will not be provided at Firefly, but there will be a covered gathering place for people to meet, share, and eat. Coffee and tea will be available. Help is needed in organizing, setting up, maintaining, and breaking down this area.

Trail Lighting
The lighting of the trails happens just prior to dusk and Leonid has the most wonder of wonderful lights, they just need to be placed and turned on (and off!)

Build the Bug
Help Joed construct the mother of all mothers, the light that lights bright, the wooden effigy of the Firefly. Go up to Joed and offer him a hand.
