Hi Everyone!
Lots of important stuff in here...
We're looking for more organizers, and it's time to start to think what you want to create for Firefly 8!
Let's Go!
FOG (Firefly Organizing Group) and Cores
The Core leaders are the backbone of Firefly.
The rest of us are the The Muscle.
The Brain is the FOG (AKA Core Leaders) and the Board.
Firefly needs all of these pieces to function!
As a member of the Fog,
You will occasionally meet and collaborate.
You will make/implement decisions about Firefly.
FOG membership lasts one Firefly, typically ~January through July.
The FOG will work with the volunteers to make Firefly happen.
And make it Awesome.
Special Thanks to all who have signed up so far!
Fear not, if you could not attend the Town Hall Meeting, there are still many available leadership positions and volunteer opportunities! Keep in mind that not only are volunteers needed in the coming months to help the Cores accomplish everything necessary to make Firefly happen, but there are many volunteer opportunities available during the event (eg: greeters, parking, communal kitchen, etc).
YOU make Firefly happen!
The following Cores still need Leaders.
(NOTE: This is your biggest opportunity to help make Firefly happen):
- Art and Theme Placement Core - Need a Co-leader to work with Paul Elrich (Note: This Core was previously the Art Core. The name has been changed to include placement)
- Fire and Safety Core - Need a Co-leader to work with Chooch. (Note: This Core was previously the Fire Core. The name has been changed to include safety)
- Leave No Trace Core - Need at least one Co-leader, possibly two, as we don't have a definite Co-leader yet.
- Parking Core - Need two Co-leaders
- Infrastructure Core - Need two Co-leaders
- Volunteer Core - Need two Co-leaders
- Rangers Core - Ranger Pretzel is still leading the core, but taking a less-active role this year. He still needs two (2) co-leaders to assist with leading the Rangers.
- Firefly Beyond Firefly Core - Need two Co-leaders. Obviously, this Core is not essential to making Firefly happen, however, this Core will consist of people that want to help The Firefly Arts Collective branch out beyond Firefly, doing more public events around Boston, year round.
As noted above, we need Leaders for the Volunteer Core. In the interim, if you would like to volunteer for a Core Leader position or if you have questions, please email:

Town Hall Meeting Wrap-up
Thanks to all who came out, it was fun :)
If you weren't there, or want to relive the experience, we have posted the slides:
http://stevens.chaoshacker.org/2010FireflyTownMeeting1Slides.pdf
Please check them out! These slides will help you see where Firefly needs your help, and what your fellow community members are looking for.
The slides also summarize the results from the first Firefly Poll.
Thanks to all who participated! You really helped us understand what's important to the larger community!

Brief Excerpt:
Firefly is excited to offer a grant program to support and promote your interactive, community-based, collaborative, radically expressive creations. Proposals can include installations, performances, 2D and 3D works, fire art, activities, or other participatory and interactive projects. Only projects that meet these criteria should be submitted. For example, a sound project (band, DJ, etc.) must include an interactive component or additional performance aspect to be considered. Individual theme camps will not be funded, but proposals for projects/events placed within theme camp areas are welcome to apply.
Send your completed Art Grant Applications to
grants@fireflyartscollective.org
Land Plan
We continue to solicit ideas for potential Firefly Locations.
Maybe someone has that perfect spot with 500 acres, no mud (also not paved of course) and no neighbors?
Let us know!
That's a bit on the ideal end of the spectrum, but we have to shoot high to do better than Kirk's amazing and magical land from last year, which we are still
strongly considering.
If you think you might know something, or know someone who might,
The Land requirements for Firefly are located here:

If you have potential leads for land for next year, please e-mail
land@fireflyartscollective.org
