Work Weekends

Every year we have 2 or 3 weekends in June dedicated to infrastructure improvements, site preparation, preliminary site mapping, and initial setup for the event.

Last year there were two work weekends. Many dedicated volunteers prepared the site on these two weekends, contributing to the overall success of Firefly 2009.

This year's work weekends will be:
  • Fri, June 11th-Sun, June 13th (work weekend #1)
  • Fri, June 18th-Sun, June 20th (work weekend #2)

Please do not arrive at the site before 7pm on Friday night!!!

Work Weekends will be somewhat different this year. All Work Weekend volunteers are required to sign up ahead of time and must be on the Work Weekend sign-up list to participate in the Work Weekend. Work Weekend volunteers will coordinate with the Volunteer Core Co-leaders to maximize everyone's efforts and productivity.

All work and no play isn't any fun, but please keep in mind that everyone's priority during the Work Weekends is to accomplish necessary tasks and complete required projects to make Firefly happen.

Some of the usual tasks include; determining locations for various event structures, Theme and/or Music Camps, and art installations, preliminary site mapping, clearing trails, digging holes, cutting and gathering firewood, gathering sticks for the creation of the bug. Once necessary tasks and projects that contribute to the overall event are complete, volunteers can begin preparation for Theme and/or Music Camps, art installations, or personal camping areas.

If you are interested in attending a Work Weekend or have any questions, contact us at 2010work (at) fireflyartscollective (dot) org

Or if you know which Work Weekend you would like to volunteer for:

2010work1 (at) fireflyartscollective (dot) org for Work Weekend #1
and/or
2010work2 (at) fireflyartscollective (dot) org for Work Weekend #2

You will need to provide the following information:
  • Name
  • which Work Weekend you are signing up for
  • ride/car situation (need a ride? Have room in your car for others?)
  • specific projects or tasks you plan to work on (if known ahead of time)
  • any tools you would like to bring.

Approximately a week before each Work Weekend, a detailed email will be sent to all volunteers with directions, arrival and camping info, and what to bring. An email will also be sent to volunteers that need rides or have room in their car, so that they can coordinate carpooling.
